I made it a resolve to wear more dresses. I wear them almost everyday. Nothing embodies the feminine aesthetic more than a beautiful dress. We can easily underestimate the effect our choice of clothing can have on how we feel and present ourselves as women. What we wear on our bodies is so important.
The beauty of a flowing piece of fabric that encases the body, exudes softness, femininity, playfulness and relaxation. It gives freedom and ease of movement. Dresses are more forgiving on the body. Has your once youthful figure settled into a more ‘comfortable’ frame? A dress provides that necessary grace you may need.
Not quite convinced? Let’s explore some perks to wearing dresses regularly.
It’s a Complete Outfit
A dress allows you to avoid fretting over a specially curated ensemble in the morning. That decision fatigue is gone. You only need one piece of clothing and you are done. It’s a complete, all-in-one outfit. No matching or color coordination is necessary. The right style of dress that fits your body type, provides elegance and simplicity. Think accented waistlines, modest bodices, flowy skirts. Shed the ‘uniform’ of monotonous pants and shirts. Develop a timeless, no-fuss, classic look with a dress.
They aren’t Complicated
When it comes to ladies wearing dresses regularly, they may hear remarks like “That takes so much time” or “I’m too lazy to dress up every day!” Or “ I don’t want to look so dressed up!” When was putting on a single article of clothing an insurmountable task? Long gone are the times of the Victorians, in which putting on a dress involved an orchestra of events like lacing up a corset, stepping into a girdle, lacing up stockings and boots. Putting on a dress takes just as much time as putting on a pair of pants and a shirt, if not faster.
Be Treated Like a Lady
When you wear a dress, be prepared to be treated like a lady. It’s such a heartwarming discovery. Dresses invite smiles and gentlemanly gestures. Life feels a bit sunnier. Older men and women absolutely love them. It reminds them of an era foregone. A pretty dress just makes everyone happier. It’s in stark contrast to dressing down. I remember being in the line at the grocery store behind an older woman. Suddenly a young woman, perhaps late teens, stumbled inside of the store. Complete with pajamas and slippers and bed hair. There was some clear second-hand embarrassment going on for me and the older woman. It’s like uncomfortably seeing someone emerging from their bed, an off-limits place to the eyes of the public. Now clearly, I didn’t know the circumstances around her look, but I do know this carefree look is a trend. When a woman wears dresses, it usually is a clear message that she cares and that she will only expect to be treated with dignity and respect.
It Changes Your Mindset
I’m a huge advocate of dressing up even if you don’t plan to leave the house that day. It’s like making your bed even though you will be sleeping in it again that night. It’s refreshing. It provides a sense of renewal. It provides a positive start for the day to invest in the way you look. For any of our mothers out there, we know the stark contrast of wearing a milk-stained t-shirt complete with sweatpants, slippers and messy hair. It will totally change your mood. If unexpected company comes by, you are in a complete state of panic. It can even affect your mothering and your mood as a wife. Or think about when you were sick, wearing not-so-fresh clothing. You will feel sicker. When you dress up and feel good about yourself, you will typically be more focused and motivated in the things you do. In short, dressing up polished for the day in a dress, can break the monotony of the day. It gives you more patience as you take on a graceful mood. It allows chores to feel a little less dissatisfying, and it allows you to soak in the admiring eyes of your family. You are worth putting a little more time and effort into. Dresses raise your confidence, which then creates a domino effect on how you take care of yourself.
It Gives a Refined Look
Tasteful dresses give vibes of elegance and sophistication. The outline of your full body isn’t on full display. Dresses can hide the things you aren’t comfortable with on your body like cellulite or bloating. If you are not sure if you are properly covered to your liking, simply bend down. This will expose any areas that may need more coverage.
Perfect for All Seasons
Dresses are easy to layer if you need to dress warmly in cold weather just by adding tights, thermal clothing, thick socks, a sweater, and/or an underskirt. And when the weather gets warmer, a dress can be airy allowing your body to breathe. A loose cotton dress paired with sandals can be a game-changer in the summer. The key to comfort for any dress is choosing the right materials based on the seasons.
Great for Travel
Are you going on vacation or another type of trip? Dresses are perfect for compatibility when it comes to your suitcase. It makes it so easy to look relaxed and a bit dressed up when you are transitioning from an excursion to lunch or dinner plans.
Closing
Showcase your femininity. Dresses aren’t just meant to be your ‘good’ clothes you only wear on a blue moon. Try to wear a dress for a day or even an entire week. Make a note of your encounters and your mood from those encounters and experiences. I’m sure you will be delighted with the results!
